Hosting Our First Christmas

For the past 2 years, since we started our house search, I told my families that I wanted to host Christmas if we got a house AND I got a nice dining room set by the time the holidays came around. I succeeded in doing both....

Our very first Christmas tree in our home

Hubbys dad took care of our table centerpiece. I mentioned that I didn't know what I wanted to use & he sent these on Friday afternoon!!!

Whenever I receive flowers, I like to take pictures with any of my jewelry pieces. Here's our wedding rings in our centerpiece.

My table set, using my wedding china for the first time. I made the place cards too!!!

We had LOTS of food... TWO hams, spanish rice, potato casserole, homemade Mac & Cheese, Pork & Beans...

Desserts were Apple Cake and a huge variety of cheesecake slices, topped with Cool Whip!!!!

It was such a amazing day spent with both sides of our families for the first time since our wedding. I can't believe that is already over. All the planning & prepping, when it goes by in a flash. 363 days til we do it all over again!!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS
HAPPY NEW YEARS
TO ALL!!!!!

Dining Room Renovation

Since I was hosting Christmas @ our house this year, I wanted to re-paint the dining room to make it more formal. We started this project the week after Thanksgiving & completed it the week before Christmas. It took longer than we had planned because once we started, my husband realized it was going to be more work than expected. The reason: the previous owners screwed up!!! They spackled, but never sanded, left HUGE paint drips that they never fixed, & completely forgot to prime & paint the window trims. Needless to say, our dining room was previously DARK PINK!!!! Not red or burgundy, but PINK!!!! Yuck, thank God they at least attempted to cover up that horrible color.

This is what it looked like when we took our first walk through before buying the house.  Those UGLY curtains were immediately taken down when we unlocked the door after closing.

Taping off the entrances

Just a FEW of the spackle spots Hubby has to fix....
Taping the walls for the chair rails....
My cat MUST be involved in anything we do.  She laid outside of the plastic crying to come in, but since the room was covered in dust for a few days, we couldn't let her in.  However, once she was in, she would NOT leave!!!
Chair rails taped off...
First color going up.... It's called "Artichoke Heart" from Martha Stewart.  We didn't actually do the painting.  We had a family friend do it who has been a professional painter for his entire career.  Which is why the ceiling is NOT taped off.  We did tape it, but he refused to paint until we removed it.  We were AMAZED, his hand is soo steady, not ONE SPECK of green paint ended up on the ceiling.
1/2 way there....
Bottom color finished... It's called "Spanish Moss", also from Martha Stewart

Painting the baseboards... I was undecided on changing to the bigger boards, so we left them as they were... Paint color is "Talc"

Chair rails are up...  thanks to hubbys co-worker who came over with his chop saw and nail gun.
And we are FINISHED!!!!!!!!
Once again, Bailee is in the mix...

Complete with my dining room set!!!!

As labor intensive as this project was, we are sooo happy to have done it.  The room looks amazing, perfectly matches my furniture.  Eventually we will be adding crown molding, which will really make the room pop.

New York City @ Christmas Time

My husband has never been to New York City before and it's been many years since I was last there, so I decided to ask my cousins Rachel & Brett if they wanted to spend the day there showing us around. Rachel worked & lived in Jersey City for awhile so she was our "resident tour guide" for the day!!! She took us to see many places even I had never been. I can not believe how HUGE Macys store really is. I've heard about it, but since I hadn't ever gone inside before... holy cow!!! We never even made it to the top floor. It took forever just to get to the 8th floor. Yet, it was all worth it seeing the decorations throughout the place.

NYC @ Christmas time I can definitely compare it much like walking in Disney…. long day, exhausted, & feet hurting come the end!!!! However, it was a great day spent with awesome people. We even got to meet up with another good friend for dinner!!!!

So, my husband & I have a thing with the word "Believe"… so I had to take a photo of every sign that said it.

The CRAZINESS looking back from the escalator. Wall to wall people....

Chocolate HEAVEN!!!!!

Ice Rink at Bryant Park!!!!

This is our 8th Hard Rock Cafe we've been to together. Funny thing is, the closest one to us, Philadephia, neither of us have ever been to.

Wall of over 300 guitars from Gibson!!!! WOW!!!

Spotted Zakk Wyldes' Bullseye....

Did you think I wouldn't get to the Disney Store??? I wanted to purchase a Tink NYC pin, but the line was wrapped around the store. NOT waiting in another 3 hour line, just for a $7.99 pin. I can buy it on eBay since I was "officially" there now.

Holy Moly ... APPLE!!!! This store is awesome. A glass box in the middle of the street...

...and you enter by a spiral staircase and the store is all underground!!!!

The REAL piano from the BIG movie @ FAO Schwartz Toy Store… I think they said for $150,000 and you can own it!! (or $89 for a small rollup one…)

THE TREE!!!!! The 2nd reason for the whole trip!!!! Would have like to have gotten a better shot, but it was tighter than sardines....

Ice Rink in Rockefeller Center!!!!
